2022-09-13 Schynige Platte

20220913 122812 --> The Schynige Platte Bahn runs from Wilderswil (586 m) to errrm well, Schynige Platte (1987 m).The railway dates from 1893. Electrification took place in 1913 DSC04254 --> DSC04229 --> He 2/2 was a more or less a standard type of electric locomotive built by SLM (Swiss Locomotive and Machine factory). 65 were built in a period from 1898 to 1957 (60 years!!). This one is obviously out of service. DSC04230 -->
DSC04231 --> DSC04232 --> A snowplough DSC04234 --> Two more locomotives. The Schynige Platte Bahn bought locomotives from other railways, especially from the Wengernalpbahn (WAB) and over the years built up a substantial collection of similar locos. DSC04260 --> No 14 is one of the four original locomotives of the SPB
2022-09-13 12.33.15 --> No 12 seems to be the body only, standing on temporary wheels, I cannot see the rack wheels so I assume it is in some state of repair. DSC04235 --> No 61 ex-Wengernalpbahn, 1912 DSC04236 --> DSC04237 -->
DSC04238 --> A sister locomotive from the same batch of 1912. 110 years old and then in such a good condition! DSC04244 --> The wheels are unpowered. The locomotive always uses the rack system to power itself. DSC04245 --> And that is why even on flat streches of track there's always a rack, even on turnouts, which makes it a very complex thing. DSC04240 -->
DSC04239  --> DSC04241  --> DSC04242  --> 2022-09-13 12.33.05  -->
DSC04267  -->  No 16 (1910) making its entrance into Wilderwil station DSC04273  --> DSC04279  --> DSC04284  -->
DSC04286  --> DSC04290  --> DSC04294  -->  New meets old. ABDeh 4/8 of the Berner Oberland Bahn DSC04295  -->
DSC04297 --> And this is how steep the SPB goes up, ua maximoum of 25% incline!. I made every effort to level my camera so this is no exaggeration. Check it with the level fields in the valley. DSC04298 --> DSC04299 --> DSC04300 -->
DSC04301  -->  And quickly a panorama unfolded beneath us DSC04302  --> DSC04304  --> DSC04307  -->  Crossing no 18 (1910) after the first third of the line
2022-09-13 13.05.03  -->  In a tunnel DSC04313  --> DSC04319  --> DSC04321  -->
DSC04323  --> DSC04334  -->  Crossing no 19 (1911) halfway the line DSC04345  --> 2022-09-13 13.23.45  -->
DSC04361 --> Interlaken, right Lake Brienz DSC04362 --> DSC04364 --> A first view on Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, the very reason why the line was built and still exists DSC04366 -->
DSC04371  --> DSC04375  --> 00119  --> DSC04377  -->
DSC04378  --> DSC04379  --> DSC04380  --> DSC04382  -->  Reaching the summit
DSC04383  -->  No 63 awaiting its return trip DSC04384  --> DSC04387  --> DSC04389  -->
DSC04390  --> DSC04391  --> DSC04392  --> DSC04393  -->  Schynige Platte summit station is a nice one for a diorama
DSC04394 --> Although this album is about the railway, I can't help but include some impressions of the summit. The Alp Horns playing here daily the greet the incoming trains are part of the folklore 2022-09-13 13.53.05 --> DSC04400 --> I made a short walk in the area and caught this train descending the mountain DSC04401 -->
DSC04425  --> 2022-09-13 14.19.16  --> DSC04409  --> DSC04410  -->
DSC04413  -->  Lake Brienz DSC04414  -->  Lake Thun DSC04434  --> DSC04439  -->
2022-09-13 14.36.16  --> 2022-09-13 14.49.04  --> DSC04462  -->  Jungraujoch, the destination of our next trip DSC04474  -->  After a marvellous stay we returned to the summit station
DSC04480  --> DSC04482  --> DSC04486  --> DSC04488  -->
DSC04489  --> DSC04494  --> DSC04498  --> DSC04501  -->

DSC04503 --> DSC04504 --> and before long we were on our way down. DSC04505 --> This view on the first original SPB loco concludes our visit
