On a rare bout of early morning fall sun against a threatening rain sky Sliedrecht's station showed off its almost 125 year old beauty
1 The station building was built on 1885 in the grand style of the days. Traffic never met expectations and the line sunk into a rather uneventful existence. In 1985 a new building was erected and the municipality sought to demolish the old building, argueing there were enough similar buildings in the area (one to be exact, in Leerdam). On popular demand it was however preserved and served for some years as a center for starting companies. In 2002 the station was completely restored to its former glory and since then houses a restaurant.
2 In 1985 a second station was built to replace the old one. Thankfully the original building survived due to private intiatives and oh irony His Royal Ugliness was RIPped down in 2012, no longer obstructing the magnificence of the old lady
3 And this how it looks in the early morning of Nov 14, 2012, standing proud and sovereign
