2008-06-29 Eisenbahnmuseum Heilbronn

Late June, early July I visited a German friend in the Stuttgart area. We visited the Sinsheim Gauge 1 show. On the same day we also payed a visit to the Süddeutsches Eisenbahnmuseum Heilbronn. This is a joint photo report of Dieter and I on that visit. As a bonus comes a photo report on a festival , held earlier in 2007, which Dieter attended. His photos show many of the engines in the open which we only saw in the sheds.

SEM HN 022 SEM HN 023 SEM HN 024 Interesting view for those who care to see it. The rear attachment of the boiler, at the firebox end. The plate allows the boiler and firebox to expand backward but prevents the boiler from moving upward during braking or completely beraking away in case of an accident. The "rivets" in the upper half of the photo are the stay bolts which connect the outer with the inner firebox. These bolts prevent deformation of the firebox while the pressure is on. They are hollow so a stream of steam or water will betray a broken staybolt. SEM HN 025
